With technological developments, the list of our basic necessities has increased more than ever. If till yesterday, only water was the necessity, today it is water pumps too. Water pump is a machine that consumes electricity to function. This machines work to draw water up from the well by creating vacuum. But in the present scenario, we can’t afford a pump that eats too much of electricity. Hence, it is always suggested to get a machine that can not only save electricity but can also be helpful in favoring your bid to cutback global warming.

After paying attention to such demands of people, water pump manufacturers came up with latest designed pumps which are pretty energy efficient. Helping people in saving electricity to the optimum extent, these pumps are made using latest technologies. These industrial manufacturers of water pump emphasize a lot on offering quality to people. They use better raw material to offer sturdiness to the body of the pump. Most of the water pumps are of anti corrosion nature and offers best level of resistance which ultimately turns into a profitable deal. These anti corrosion nature water pumps effectively reduces running costs due to higher grade of efficiency and longevity. These efficiently designed pumps work for a longer period without any disruption. Water pump manufacturers have worked a lot to make such pumps public friendly and reliable. Thus, these pumps keep working even in harsh conditions and offers better results. One of the categories of water pumps are known as submersible pumps. These pumps’ efficient duty points range from 0.1 to 335 m3/h.

If you are also going to buy a water pump, you must look for a pump which is not only energy efficient but also able to work under difficult conditions. Normally buyers do not pay attention to such qualities of pumps and look forward for a pump of lower price but efficiency matters the most. To buyers in a better purchase, water pump manufacturers ask people to pay attention on the quality of pump, as if you get a higher price pump made of stainless steel, you are going to avoid many linked expenditures. Stainless steel water pumps are not only sturdy but also reduces other costs, as you would not to pay loads of money for handling, installation and service charge.

There are many companies that manufacture and sell water pumps. You can find details of water pump manufacturers and suppliers online too. Most of the manufacturing company boasts their own site while many has opted for listings in B2B sites. You can also check for handling and other important details on these sites.

The geothermal heat pump system is probably one of the most notable innovations of recent times in the field of heating and cooling. These heat pump systems work in a similar fashion to that of the traditional refrigeration systems with fluids inside a network of pipes that is used to dissipate or absorb heat from the surrounding. However, unlike refrigeration that uses the surrounding air of its outside atmosphere to maintain its temperature requirements, the geothermal heat pump systems work at an underground level.

Temperatures at about 10 feet underground remain constant irrespective of the changes in weather above ground. This approach, offers a greater efficiency to the system, and can heat and cool faster since the unit is not combating ambient temperatures.

As far as statistics go, these ground source geothermal heat pump systems are capable or performing at efficiency levels that are at least 400x more efficient than the best air conditioners available in the market, and 200x better than most gas furnaces in the market. These devices can work with one kilowatt/hour of energy to produce 12,000 BTU of cooling and heating, compared to 2.2 Kilowatt/hour energy required by most other standard systems to produce the same amount of output.

These systems are widely recommended by the EPA, various environmental groups, and energy-conscious associations. For instance, the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States recommends these geothermal energy systems are the most energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and money-saving space conditioning devices available to date. Geothermal systems are heavily favored for many reasons.

Here are some of the top geothermal heat pump advantages:

Although these systems are initially expensive, they end up costing much less than other traditional systems.

The geothermal heat pump price comes up to around 00 per ton of their capacity, so that for an average three ton, you would spend 00 initially. A similar size of air conditioner would on the other hand cost you 00 roughly. However, these geothermal heat pump systems are capable of saving 30 to 70% energy consistently. So that on an average yearly energy bill of 00 you could be saving in between 0 to 50, effectively breaking even on the cost front within the first 4-8 years.

While traditional air conditioners usually would not last you beyond that eight year period (and in many cases far less), these geothermal heat pump systems are known to provide consistent performance for as long as fifty years. They are not only durable they require very little maintenance and sometimes even zero maintenance. In fact, the loop fields under ground are often guaranteed for 25 to 50 years, while scientists say they could potentially last till more than 100 years.

These systems are environment friendly and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by an equivalent amount of 750 trees. There is no combustion in these systems, which means no emissions into the environment.

   They are very quiet.

Like central air-conditioning these system uses ductwork to heat and cool spaces. A geothermal system hooks up to the same ductwork, undetectably maintaining comfortable temperatures year round and also maintain humidity balance naturally.

Since the unit is stored inside, and the lines are buried underground, there is no cosmetic degradation to the exterior of the home or building.

Theft is also thwarted to do its set-up.

With a de-superheater, a geothermal system can also be used to heat/cool water.

A geothermal system can also be configured for radiant flooring, to heat floors throughout the house.

     CUMMINS FUEL SYSTEM

                       The Cummins Lift Pump

This article is number one in a six part series on the Cummins fuel system (1994 to 1998 equipped with the P pump). This applies to the Cummins 5.9 and 8.3 diesel, as they share the same lift and injection pump. During the prototype stage of designing new products for the P7100 and the Cummins fuel system, we completed hundreds of tests and thought it was necessary to share this information with diesel owners and Cummins performance enthusiasts.

THE BOSCH P7100 IS THE KING OF INJECTION PUMPS

The Cummins 12 valve enjoys incredible popularity because of its simplicity, durability, ease of maintenance and the low purchase price of the truck. Power increases are about as cheap as they get, without the complexity of electronics and fault codes. Power levels in the 400 HP+ range are not uncommon for the Cummns 12 valve, and it can still be driven on the street! The Bosch P7100 (P Pump) is the king in sled pulling competition. Several of these torque monsters exceed 1000 horsepower on only 5.9 liters !!

Let’s dig in with some interesting comparisons on the lift pump. The Carter lift pump is a basic hydraulic piston pump. Industrial piston pumps are typically made from high strength castings while the lift pump body is made from an aluminum die casting. Piston pumps rarely use check valves, while our Cummins transfer pump uses three. The piston on a hydraulic piston pump is connected to the swash plate by a connecting rod or with the use of a ball and socket design. The piston in the Cummins lift pump is actuated by a plunger, while the return stroke is by spring pressure. Hydraulic piston pumps have precision ground cylinders and pistons. Our lift pump doesn’t share any of the features of industrial pumps, but it is still is a time tested design.

THE PEAK FUEL FLOW NUMBER AND IT’S NOT GOOD

In spite of its draw backs, the lift pump is very reliable! My 98 has 376,000 on the original Cummins lift pump. Unlike its industrial cousin, our lift pump is only 35% efficient at rated RPM. For all of the tests, rated RPM is 2500. 35% is INCEDIBLY LOW, and by the end of article number two, you will know why. With that knowledge in hand, you will be able to increase the efficiency of your system and make HP improvements more easily.

Let’s start with a few specs on the Carter lift pump (aka the Cummins lift pump). During the development stage of our fuel products, we collected a large amount of information on the lift pump from shop manuals, diesel forums, and we requested additional information from the manufacturer. Cummins rates the pump at 52.8 GPH (gallons per hour). 52.8 divided by 60 equals .88 GPM. To be candid, the rated and actual flow ratings were very different.

Normally a piston pump’s flow will increase, to a point, as RPM increases (in a well designed system). Not so with the lift pump. The numbers go down after 2200 RPM. I will explain in detail WHY this takes place, in article number two. Some of you may be thinking that the lift pump is bad because the efficiency is so low. We tested all GPM flows with a brand new lift pump and fuel filter. There were no visible air bubbles in the clear hoses leading to and from the flow meter. 35% efficiency is a very low number and we will explain why.

As mentioned above, we have made several hundred tests using precise flow meters and accurate pressure gauges. Sometimes our assumptions were very close and other times the readings didn’t make sense. The findings that didn’t match hydraulic principles, forced us to dig deep to find out why. Remember, one good test is equal to a thousand expert opinions.

          ]]>

SOME BASICS ON THE LIFT PUMP

Contrary to popular belief, the Cummins lift pump produces flow on the return stroke of the piston, not the forward stroke. Spring pressure on the return stroke, NOT the forward plunger movement, is what produces the flow in the fuel system. In article number two, you will discover why you cannot efficiently run your fuel pressure higher than 32 PSI.

HOW DO WE FIND THE PUMPS DISPLACEMENT?

How do we determine the calculated displacement of this pump. Here is a handy formula to determine cubic inch displacement of any cylinder (pump) or engine. This formula is easy and works great for finding the cubic inch displacement of your engine or any piston pump. Bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x number of cylinders = displacement in cubic inches.

1.180 x 1.180 x .25 x .7854 (constant) x 1 = .273 in³.

For every stroke of the piston, it should produce aproximetely 1/4 cubic inch of fuel flow.

EASY FORMULA TO CALCULATE GPM

We now know that our lift pump displaces .273 cubic inches. How do we figure the calculated GPM flow of the lift pump? The formula is very easy. .273 in³ x pumping cycles per minute (remember that the pump is at half speed of the crank) divided by 231 (cubic inches per gallon of water) = GPM.

.273 x 1250 (half speed of 2500 rated RPM) = 341 divided by 231 = 1.477 GPM. The carter lift pump is calculated at 1.477 (rounded up to 1.48) GPM at 100% efficiency.

AND NOW THE GOOD STUFF!

This photo shows the GPM flow at idle, which is 800 RPM. We are now going to use the formulas. Please bear with me, it’s straight forward, and rather easy. .3 GPM meter reading x 1.0495 = .315 corrected GPM. This is the actual flow from the Carter lift pump at idle. What is the calculated flow of this piston pump? 400(half engine speed) x .273 cubic inches = 109. 109 divided by 231 (cubic inches in a gallon) = .47 GPM. At 100% efficiency, our lift pump should flow .47 GPM. So, we now take .315 (actual flow) divided by .47 (calculated) = .67 or 67% efficient. Not the best efficiency number, but OK.

This is the GPM flow at 1500 RPM. My apologies for the faint image. .4 x 1.0495 equals .42 GPM. If this pump were 100% efficient, it would flow .89 GPM. At 1500 RPM our Cummins transfer pump is only 47% efficient. .42 (actual) divided by .89 (calculated GPM flow) = .47 or 47%. Are you starting to see a trend? As the RPM increases, the efficiency goes down !!

THE NUMBERS GET WORSE !

At 2500 RPM, we are flowing .52 GPM (.5 x 1.0495 correction) At 2500 RPM, the efficiency has dropped to 35%. That’s .07 GPM less than at 2200 RPM. We reached peak flow of .59 GPM at 2200 and everything thereafter is going down hill. If you installed a 4000 RPM governer in your P pump, your fuel flow is in the neighborhood of .44 GPM. My mathematition son, Curtis, arrived at this number by using calculus.

So, our Cummins lift pump is capable of flowing 1.48 gallons per minute of diesel fuel at 2500 RPM. I’m here to tell you that the Carter lift pump is no way near its calculated GPM flow of 1.48. Not even close!! The Carter lift pump only flows .52 GPM at 2500 RPM. That equates to ONLY 35% efficiency. It flows .59 GPM at 2200 RPM, which is 45% efficient. To calculate efficiency take the actual GPM divided by calculated GPM.

.59 divided by 1.3 GPM = .45 or 45% efficient. That’s at peak fuel flow. At rated RPM it’s much worse!

OUR LIFT PUMP NEEDS HELP!

800 RPM .315 Actual GPM .47 Calculated GPM 67% Efficiency
1500 RPM .42 Actual GPM .89 Calcualted GPM 47% Efficiency
2200 RPM .59 Actual GPM 1.3 Calculated GPM 45% Efficiency
2500 RPM .52 Actual GPM 1.48 Calculated GPM 35% Efficiency

The following numbers were arrived at by using calculus.

4000 RPM .44 GPM 2.36 Calculated GPM 18.6% Efficiency

From an industrial point of view, this lift pump would have to be replaced with a better, more efficient design. Industrial piston pumps are a minimum of 85% efficient. Some models are 90 to 95% efficient. There are several reasons why the efficiency of the Cummins lift pump is so low and it’s not the pump’s fault !! The secrets on how to improve your fuel system will be revealed in article number two.

When the fuel system on the 94 to 98 Dodge Cummins was designed, they failed to follow basic hydraulic principles. This failure (or intended design to limit HP) is the reason why the lift pump only flows 35% of it’s capability at 2500 RPM.

We will cover the reasons why the efficiency goes down as the RPM goes up, and what can be done about it, in article number two. New articles will be published about every 2 weeks.

Little giant pumps USA might appear vulnerable due to their size but their functions are infinite. Though, their basic function remains same of obstruction and conveyance of water, but it can be used for various contexts and can be used under varied circumstances.

Espadrilles are a latest trend in the world of fashion footwear. These wonderful casual shoes were originally worn by the people in the Pyrenees of Spain and France and were made of rope and canvas. They are highly comfortable and go well with various fashions. Today, these shoes have rubber soles that resemble rope but are long lasting. Some espadrilles have ties or bows around the ankle or the toe. Most espadrilles have the traditional, closed canvas uppers and flat soles. The espadrille shoes are also available in wedge heels.

Espadrilles are quite popular among the people from the upper middle class. These shoes can often be seen on the sailors’ feet. Some espadrilles also sport the traditional stripes of a seaman. These shoes are loved by many as they provide comfort and luxury at affordable prices. They have a charm and aura of their own and despite being low priced, they have a charismatic character and personality that even very high priced deluxe footwear cannot equal. Regardless of what you are wearing, these shoes have the quality to improve your elegance. These shoes are quite versatile and give you that typically carefree look that typifies the Spanish word manana.

          ]]>

All the espadrilles have certain basic features. The upper part of these shoes is usually made of various materials like cotton, cloth, rayon or linen. What makes these shoes different from most other types of footwear is that mainly natural fibres are used to manufacture them rather than the synthetic materials. Woven rope is normally used to make the soles. Traditional espadrilles had limited colours and designs. White natural colour of the jute rope and canvas upper gave the espadrilles its mystique charm. These shoes are highly popular during the summer. The espadrille shoes are generally worn without socks. They can provide your feet with a different look.

Most espadrilles have a common design but they are available in a wide range of colours. If you search these shoes on different websites then you will be able to check the different colours such as blue, black, red, white, brown and many more. These shoes are extremely versatile and suit people from different age groups. These shoes are highly popular among the young adults and the teenagers. The espadrille shoes look great with jeans, shirt or t-shirt. The material of the uppers is available in great variety. There are different funky designs in bold colours. There are stripes and chequered designs. What gives them a different identity is the stitch. The thread is a part of the design aspect and in some designs; contrasting threads are used to stitch the upper to the sole.

Espadrilles are unisex shoes and are designed for both men and women. Women can wear the espadrille shoes with different types of outfits. These shoes are highly unique and fashionable. These shoes can be great to increase your fashion statement. These shoes are especially wonderful to wear throughout the spring and the summer. Since the canvas stretches to mould the feet and the heel is also designed to follow the contours of the underside of the fit what you get is comfort.

You can wear them in various occasions including boat trips, beach trips, festivals, carnivals, birthday parties and weddings.
Pumps are used throughout society for a variety of purposes. Early applications include the use of the windmill or watermill to pump water. Today, the pump is used for irrigation, water supply, gasoline supply, air conditioning systems, refrigeration as compressor, chemical movement, sewage movement, flood control, marine services, etc.

One sort of pump once common worldwide was a hand-powered , or ”. It would be installed over a community water well that was used by people in the days before piped water supplies. Water from pitcher pumps is drawn directly from the soil; it is more prone to contamination. If such water is not filtered and purified, consumption of it might lead to gastrointestinal or other water-borne diseases.

Because of the wide variety of applications, pumps have a plethora of types, shapes and sizes: from very large to very small, from handling gas to handling liquid, from high pressure to low pressure, and from high volume to low volume. We are discussing about mainly three types of pumps like

The submersible pump is the most popular of pump types in the industry. It is still a centrifugal pump, but can be much more efficient than an average above-ground . They can be used to pump water for small cabins or large cities. In a submersible pump, the pump and motor are both submerged in the water. This allows for a huge benefit because now the energy goes into pushing the water instead of, like typical centrifugal pumps, combating gravity and atmospheric pressure to pump the water. Submersible pumps are available in wide range from .

          ]]>

Submersible pumps are found in many applications. Single stage pumps are used for drainage, , and . They are also popular with aquarium filters. are typically lowered down a borehole and used for water abstraction or in water wells.

The Centrifugal Pump is made for coupling with electric motor, high speed diesel engine. The direction of rotation is anti-clockwise viewing from drivers end. The pump is rigid in construction, vibration proof and easy handling. The pump is supported with robust ball bearings and Tapper Roller bearings as per customer’s requirements. A centrifugal pump works by converting kinetic energy into potential energy measurable as static fluid pressure at the outlet of the pump. Various types of centrifugal pumps include and many such pumps.

A centrifugal pump containing two or more is called a . The impellers may be mounted on the same shaft or on different shafts. If we need higher pressure at the outlet we can connect impellers in series. If we need a higher flow output we can connect impellers in parallel. Centrifugal pumps are used for large discharge through smaller heads.

Turbine water pump is used for various applications, such as pumping water for irrigation, fire fighting, hydroelectricity, and treatment of wastewater. The major advantage of the turbine water pump is its low revolutions per minute, or RPM, with a high and constant head. This feature enables the use of these pumps for the continuous pumping of water from deep wells. There are two types of Deepwell turbine pumps are available in the market 1. Deepwell Turbine Pump –Caprari 2. . Deepwell or are specially fabricated for pumping water from wells. Vertical turbine pumps are less expensive than submersible turbine pumps with small diameters due to easily available spare parts for Deepwell turbine pumps. These pumps consist of open or semi-open impellers.

That depends on how many people or head of livestock you want to provide water for. The chart below lists some averages that you can use to estimate your daily water demand.

Person (drinking, bathing, toilet, etc.) 75 gal/day
Cow/calf pair 20-30 gal/day
Horse or dry cow 20 gal/day
Milking cow 35 gal/day
Sheep 2 gal/day
Hog or 100 chickens 4 gal/day

That depends on your location, water source and time of year usage. One hundred cattle can drink 2,000+ gallons of water per day which can be very cost effective to provide from a shallow source of water (£100′) in the summer months. Please fill out our water pumping questionnaire and send it to us and we can put together an itemized system quote for you.

There are really only two basic types of solar pumps; positive displacement and centrifugal and these can both be subdivided into surface mount and submersible categories. Your water source will dictate whether you need to use a surface mount or submersible pump while your daily volume requirement and total dynamic head (TDH) will determine if you need a positive displacement pump or centrifugal pump. In general, positive displacement pumps (diaphragm, piston, helical rotor, etc.) are best used where the TDH is high and the daily volume requirement is low. Positive displacement pumps usually require less power to operate than a centrifugal pump and they will produce some water even in cloudy conditions where a centrifugal pump might not. Centrifugal pumps are good in situations where the TDH is low and the daily volume requirement is high. One of the disadvantages of a centrifugal pump is that it has to operate at a high enough rpm to push the water all the way out of the well. If it is cloudy and the solar array is not producing enough power, the pump/motor may be turning but not fast enough to do this. Using a tracker is highly recommended with a centrifugal pump since it increases the solar array’s power output over a longer period of time which increases your daily volume of water delivered. We carry pumps from the following manufacturers: Lorentz, Dankoff, Grundfos, Shurflo, Sunmotor and Sun Pumps. Click on each name for information about the different models that they have to offer.

That depends on many factors all of which are addressed in our “Water Pumping Questionnaire”. Please fill it out as best you can and fax/e-mail it to us and we will gladly recommend which pumping system will best suit your needs.

Head is measured in feet/meters or psi and it is a term for the distance that a pump has to push the water from your source to your tank. It may seem odd to be able to list head in terms of pressure or distance, but keep in mind that a column of water 2.31′ tall produces 1 psi at the bottom of that column so there is a correlation between distance and pressure. The greater the vertical distance is in between the water source and the tank, the harder the pump has to work to get the water there. Static head is the simple measurement from the surface of the water (when the pump is not running) to the tank. Dynamic head takes into account the amount the water level in the well drops when the pump is running plus the friction loss in the discharge pipe run. Total Dynamic Head is the sum of the static head and dynamic head.

          ]]>

Yes, but you are limited as to how far you can pull water up. The theoretical maximum is 33′ if you were able to pull a perfect vacuum at sea level. However, few pumping systems are setup at sea level and no pump on the market is able to develop a perfect vacuum on its inlet side. A good rule-of-thumb to go by is don’t assume that you can reliably pull water out a well where the static water level is lower than 10′.

The smallest submersible solar pump that we have is the 3″ diameter Grundfos SQFlex so a 2″ casing presents a bit of a challenge. If the water is within 10′ of the surface, we may be able to pull the water out with a surface pump. Otherwise you would have to consider using a jack pump which looks and works just like an oil well you see in various parts of the country. These systems are fairly expensive and complex with their sucker rods, cylinders stroke length so give us a call and we can help you design this type of system.

The answer to this question depends on your application (domestic use or stock watering), the daily volume of water that you need and what time of year you plan to use the pumping system. For most livestock water pumping applications where the highest daily volume of water is usually needed during the summer, a tracker is highly recommended since it can increase your daily water production by as much as 40% as compared to the same array on a fixed mount. In the winter time, a tracker only increases your daily water production by 5-10%. If your daily water volume requirement is low or you are setting a solar pumping system up for winter time use, then a fixed mount structure is probably the best choice. There are several manufacturers of tracking mount structures, but they can all be divided into two categories: active and passive. Active trackers use sensors, actuators and motors to follow the sun from east-to-west while passive trackers use the heat of the sun on two sealed freon containers (one on each side of the tracker connected with a tube) to do the same thing. Passive trackers are simple and reliable, but they aren’t as accurate in aiming at the sun as active trackers and they can be blown off course in high winds. On the other hand, active trackers are more trouble prone and more expensive than their passive counterparts. Give us a call if you want to look into trackers in more detail.

DON’T USE BATTERIES! The only reason I would ever consider using batteries in a solar pumping system is if you have a very low volume producing water source (well/spring) and you need to pump as much water out of it as you can each day. Otherwise, there are several reasons to avoid batteries in a pumping system:

Using batteries in a solar pumping system lowers the efficiency as compared to going solar direct since it usually lowers the operating voltage of the pump which lowers the operating speed and flow rate of the pump.
Adding batteries to a pumping system costs more money for the batteries themselves plus a required charge controller, battery enclosure and additional disconnects and wiring.
Batteries require care and maintenance that isn’t always possible in a remote location.
Batteries performance level and expected lifetime are closely connected with the temperatures that they are subjected to. If batteries are undercharged and subjected to freezing temperatures they could be damaged. If batteries are overcharged and subjected to high temperatures their lifetime will be shortened dramatically. Care must be taken to shield batteries in a remote location from temperature extremes.
You’re better off all the way around if you simply go with a solar pumping system that is designed to give you all the water you need during the daylight hours without having to resort to using batteries. Store water in a tank instead of energy in a battery! For a livestock watering system or gravity fed domestic application, we recommend that you use a storage tank that can hold a minimum of 3 days worth of water.

Maybe. Keep in mind that 1 psi = 2.31 feet of head so pressurizing a tank up to 50 psi adds about 115′ of head that the pump must push against so be sure that your pump can handle it. I would not recommend using a diaphragm pump for this application because you run the risk of rupturing the diaphragm if your pressure switch malfunctions. Another reason not to use a solar direct pump to pressurize a tank is that your tank might get low in the early morning or late evening when there isn’t enough sunlight for the pump to operate. Pressurizing a tank is best left to a separate booster pump or an AC centrifugal submersible pump running off of your inverter/battery bank, generator or utility power. Better yet, pump to an elevated tank and gravity feed down to your home or wherever you need the water.

Yes, but how cost effective this will be depends on your location (i.e. average wind speed), the daily volume of water you need and what season(s) of the year you need the water. If you have a very windy site and you are looking to provide water for a winter pasture, then a wind powered pumping system makes sense. In general the available wind power is highest in the winter and a solar array’s power output is highest in summer. The two power sources compliment each other very well seasonally so for the best year round pumping system it could very cost effective to setup a hybrid solar/wind pumping system using one of the new Grundfos SQFlex pumps with a Whisper H80 wind turbine. Keep in mind that wind turbines have moving parts which are subject to wear and tear and require maintenance so a wind powered pumping system may not be as reliable as solar.

The proper size wire to use in between your solar array and/or wind turbine and the pump depends on the voltage and amperage of your power source and the distance you need to run the wire. The size of the pump’s discharge pipe depends on what type of pipe you plan to use (steel or PVC), the distance from pump to tank and the gpm flowrate that the pump will produce. The smaller the pipe is the higher the friction loss which makes your pump work harder to produce less water. We have several charts available to determine the best wire and pipe sizes to use for your pumping application so just give us a call and we’ll design it for you.
That depends on how cold it gets at your site, if your tank is insulated/bermed and how you plan to keep your tank from freezing. Heating elements consume a lot of power to keep water from freezing which would require a large and expensive solar array to operate. There are bubbler system on the market that simply circulate the warmer water from the bottom to the of the tank and those are much more efficient than a heating element. In very cold climates it is best to install a cover on your tank that leaves only a small portion of the water exposed and then berm your tank all the way around and on of the cover. There are other more expensive and complicated methods of taping into the warm earth temperatures below the tank as well as insulating the tank and only providing water to the livestock when they come to the tank to drink so give us a call and we can direct you to companies that provide those products .

Yes if you design it that way. Most solar pumping systems utilize a controller that among other things will accept the input from a float switch in your tank which tells the pump when to start and s. Some of the other functions of pump controllers are low water cut-off, lightning protection and load matching through the use of maximum power point tracking from the solar array.

History

According to Reti, the Brazilian soldier and historian of science, the first machine that could be characterized as a centrifugal pump was a mud lifting machine which appeared as early as 1475 in a treatise by the Italian Renaissance engineer Francesco di Giorgio Martini. True centrifugal pumps were not developed until the late 1600′s, when Denis Papin made one with straight vanes. The curved vane was introduced by British inventor John Appold in 1851.

How it works

Radial Flow Centrifugal Pump Principle

A centrifugal pump works by converting kinetic energy into potential energy measurable as static fluid pressure at the outlet of the pump. This action is described by Bernoulli’s principle.

With the mechanical action of an electric motor or similar, the rotation of the pump impeller imparts kinetic energy to the fluid through centrifugal force. The fluid is drawn from the inlet piping into the impeller intake eye and is accelerated outwards through the impeller vanes to the volute and outlet piping.

As the fluid exits the impeller, if the outlet piping is too high to allow flow, the fluid kinetic energy is converted into static pressure. If the outlet piping is open at a lower level, the fluid will be released at greater speed.

Multistage Centrifugal Pumps

A centrifugal pump containing two or more impellers is called a multistage centrifugal pump. The impellers may be mounted on the same shaft or on different shafts.

If we need higher pressure at the outlet we can connect impellers in series.

If we need a higher flow output we can connect impellers in parallel.

All energy added to the fluid comes from the power of the electric or other motor force driving the impeller.

Efficiency of large pumps

Unless carefully designed, installed and monitored, pumps will be, or will become inefficient, wasting a lot of energy. Pumps need to be regularly tested to determine efficiency.

Energy Usage

The energy usage in a pumping installation is determined by the flow required, the height lifted and the length and friction characteristics of the pipeline. The power required to drive a pump (Pi), is defined simply using SI units by:

Single Stage Radial Flow Centrifugal Pump

where:

Pi is the input power required (W)

is the fluid density (kg/m3)

g is the gravitational constant (9.81 m/s2)

H is the energy Head added to the flow (m)

Q is the flow rate (m3/s)

is the efficiency of the pump plant as a decimal

The head added by the pump (H) is a sum of the static lift, the head loss due to friction and any losses due to valves or pipe bends all expressed in metres of water. Power is more commonly expressed as kW (103 W) or horsepower (multiply kW by 0.746). The value for the pump efficiency may be stated for the pump itself or as a combined efficiency of the pump and motor system.

The energy usage is determined by multiplying the power requirement by the length of time the pump is operating.

Problems of Centrifugal Pumps

Cavitation – The NPSH of the system is too low for the selected pump

Wear of the Impeller – can be worsened by suspended solids

Corrosion inside the pump caused by the fluid properties

Overheating due to low flow

Leakage along rotating shaft

Lack of Prime – centrifugal pumps must be filled (with the fluid to be pumped) in order to operate

Surge

Centrifugal pumps for solids Control

An oilfield solids control system needs many centrifugal pumps to sit on or in mud tanks. The types of centrifugal pumps used are sand pumps, submersible slurry pumps, shear pumps, and charging pumps. They are defined for their different functions, but their working principle is the same.

Magnetically coupled pumps

Small centrifugal pumps (e.g. for garden fountains) may be magnetically coupled to avoid leakage of water into the motor. The motor drives a rotor carrying a pair of permanent magnets and these drag round a second pair of permanent magnets attached to the pump impeller. There is no direct connection between the motor shaft and the impeller so no gland is needed and, unless the casing is broken, there is no risk of leakage.

In general, a pump refers to a machine or device used for lifting, compressing, or transferring fluids. It is mainly used for transport of liquids, including water, oil, acid and alkaline liquid, emulsion, suspension and emulsion liquid metals. In addition, it can also carry mixtures of gases and liquids containing solids in suspension. Australian industry of the pump has a long history of development. He made rapid progress since the reform and open policy. Apart from some special pump products, the current categories and quantities to meet the needs of domestic industries. are one of the pump and distributor in Australia. There are different types of that air pumps, rotary pumps, force, etc.

A submersible pump is one that has a sealed motor, mounted in a casing. The assembly is immersed in the liquid being pumped. The main advantage of this pump is that it can provide a significant amount of lifting force as it is not dependent on external pressure. It has a system of mechanical seals used to prevent fluid pumped into the engine, causing a short circuit. A pump can be mounted on a pipe or hose.

Some types of pumps and offered are air pumps, bore pumps, Flygt pumps and feeding pumps. Other examples include condensate pumps, dewatering pumps, fountain pumps, grinder pumps, micro pumps, sampling pumps, trash pumps, utility pumps and well pumps. Some have been designed for specific purposes. offer low-cost pumps, Townsville in Australia. These , submersible sewage pumps, 12 volt submersible pumps, submersible pumps, sand pumps, irrigation submersible pumps, submersible pumps, and solar energy. The solar submersible pumps are suitable for many uses and slowly and steadily moving water holding tank.

are found in many devices. stage pumps are used for drainage, sewage pumping, common industrial pumps and pumping the mixture. Several submersible pumps are normally used for water collection. These pumps can also be found in oil wells. In addition, can be placed directly into a pond and require relatively little installation. These pumps are also relatively quiet. These pumps are available in 115V and 230V, while the 115 is usually only for children, half the size of the pump power by the distributor in Australia. Please note that electricity and water are a dangerous combination, and a certified professional to do the wiring. come in a range of sizes, with ½ horsepower at a maximum of 25 models of market power. For most purposes ½ to 2 horses enough, but as the water table gets lower, more energy is needed to move water to the user.

There are four requirements that must be considered in the selection of is up to the expulsion of the flow, the maximum discharge pressure, power and size of the drain. Previously, the largest decline for the submersible pump is that the breaking of the seal oil and coolant pump can release into the water. However, newer pumps are magnetic drive, and no longer need coolant. These magnetic pumps are expensive but they consume less electricity.
